L’IRHT ouvre un poste d’ingénieur en humanités numériques (niveau master) pour la section grecque et Orient chrétien de l’IRHT. Cette personne prendra en charge les outils numériques développés par la section depuis plusieurs années tant en grec qu’en syriaque et contribuera à la mise en place d’un référentiel numérique pour ces domaines, dans le cadre du projet Biblissima +, ainsi qu’au développement des partenariats internationaux. Le poste est publié pour un an, mais susceptible d’être renouvelé plusieurs années.

The IRHT opens a position of Research Associate in Digital Humanities (Master’s level) for the Department of Greek and Eastern Christian Studies of the IRHT. The candidate will be in charge of the digital tools developed by the section for several years both in Greek and in Syriac and will contribute to the implementation of a digital repository of authority files for these fields, in the framework of the Biblissima+project, as well as to the development of international partnerships. The position is published for one year, but should be renewed for several years.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE for the project “Atlas of Late Antique Cities in the Southern Iberian Peninsula and in North Africa (III-VIII cent.)” (ANR-DFG) – SALARY LEVEL 13TV-L –

The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on April 1st, 2021. This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed until March 31st, 2024. The position calls for 39 hours per week. This position is also suitable for part time employment.

Responsibilities:

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

The aim of the ATLAS project is to create an atlas (WebGIS in Open Access) that records cities in the former Roman provinces Baetica (Spain) and Africa Proconsularis (Tunisia). The compilation and analysis of the transmitted records is to serve as the basis of a new narrative of Late Antiquity. This is aided by visualization of the historical developments in form of thematic maps.The successful applicant will concentrate on the written evidence of both regions under study. A strong collaboration with the French and Spanish part of the ANR-DFG funded project in La Rochelle and Madrid is expected. A successful submission of a second book in the field of late antique urban studies is welcome. The position includes the enrollment in the projects activities, i.e. the organization of research colloquia and workshops, the diffusion in social media and print publications.

Requirements:

A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. An excellent PhD in Ancient History. Expertise in Latin Epigraphy and Urban Studies is required. The knowledge of one of the languages relevant for the study of the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, Spanish and French, is required; the knowledge of English and German are expected.

Call for Applications: DAI-ANAMED Post-doctoral Fellowships

The Deutsches Archäologisches Institut, Abteilung Istanbul (DAI) and Koç University’s Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) invite applications for newly established DAI-ANAMED Joint Fellowships in Environmental Archaeology to support. The fellowships will support research on the environmental archaeology of Anatolia using approaches such as archaeobotany, anthracology, environmental modelling, and related specializations. The primary responsibility of fellowship holders will be to conduct work relating to a longitudinal research project titled “Humidity & Society: 8.500 Years of Climate History in Western Anatolia.” Using Neolithic through Classical period materials from excavations associated with the DAI and Koç University (e.g., Barcın Höyük, Kaymakçı, Pergamon), the project aims to conduct high-resolution stable isotope carbon analyses of ancient wood and seed samples to estimate past relative humidity and water availability and thus to understand past climatic conditions for agricultural and pastoral activities.

ANAMED, located in Beyoğlu, Istanbul is dedicated to fostering research on the archaeology, art, heritage, and history of Anatolia through fellowships, exhibitions, symposia, publications, and library collections and services. Selected post-doctoral fellows will work in ANAMED’s environmental archaeology laboratory, help develop reference collections therein, and run hands-on workshops related to the fellowship. Fellows must be resident in Istanbul but might spend up to two months elsewhere in Turkey carrying out field work or on-site research related to the fellowship.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful applicants will have a strong combination of the following qualifications:

·         PhD in a related specialization (e.g., archaeology, anthropology, ancient history and/or related social sciences and humanities fields) granted after 15 September 2015;

·         Demonstrated expertise in archaeobotany, anthracology, environmental modelling, isotope analyses in archaeology, and/or related specializations;

·         Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative skills for working within teams;

Ability to work independently and to prioritize multiple, simultaneous projects;

·         Ability to communicate effectively (written and spoken) in English with project-related researchers as well as Koç University faculty, administration, staff, and students; Turkish and/or German is preferred as well;

·         Flexibility in work schedule, as needed; and

·         No military obligations.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The successful applicant will be provided a fellowship stipend commensurate with experience, health benefits, a research account, and assorted other benefits.

TERM

The successful applicant will be ready to start the one-year fellowship on 21 September 2020. Renewal thereafter is contingent on project progress and available funding.
