Nous avons le plaisir de vous informer qu’une base de données intitulée «Artefacts and Raw Materials in Byzantine Archival Documents / Objets et matériaux dans les documents d’archives byzantins» est désormais accessible à l’adresse http://www.unifr.ch/go/apb.

Elle rassemble tous les termes qui concernent les « artefacts » et les matériaux qui se rencontrent dans les documents d’archive byzantins publiés. Chaque occurrence d’un terme fait l’objet d’une fiche ainsi qu’un commentaire plus ou moins développé insistant, lorsque nécessaire, sur les particularités de l’occurrence en question. Chaque terme fait par ailleurs l’objet d’une fiche de synthèse où on peut trouver un commentaire général sur le terme et éventuellement quelques indications bibliographiques.

Cette base de données est encore destinée à être améliorée et complétée par nous-mêmes, mais nous faisons surtout appel à tous ceux qui trouveront des objets et des termes sur lesquels ils ont des compétences particulières. Une adresse de contact (typika@unifr.ch) permet de poser des questions sur le fonctionnement de la base, de signaler des erreurs et de proposer des compléments. Un mode d’emploi «howto.pdf» et un onglet «Help» sont à votre disposition à l’adresse indiquée pour plus d’informations.

VIes RENCONTRES ANNUELLES INTERNATIONALES DES DOCTORANTS EN ÉTUDES BYZANTINES

Fortes de leur succès toujours croissant, les Rencontres internationales des doctorants en études byzantines se dérouleront les 4 et 5 octobre 2013 pour la sixième année consécutive. Ces rencontres s’inscrivent depuis 2010 dans le cadre de l’Association des Étudiants du Monde Byzantin (AEMB).

Le but de ces Rencontres est de rassembler pendant deux jours le plus grand nombre possible d’étudiants de troisième cycle, français et étrangers, travaillant sur le monde byzantin, tous champs de recherche et domaine de spécialisation confondus (histoire, histoire de l’art, archéologie, philologie,…). Leur objectif est de faire connaître et de valoriser les recherches des doctorants en études byzantines auprès d’autres étudiants et spécialistes, issus de disciplines diverses (Moyen Âge occidental, monde islamique, peuples des steppes…).

Riches, vivantes et pluridisciplinaires, ces Rencontres souhaitent encourager les débats scientifiques et méthodologiques autour des sujets de recherche présentés afin de favoriser et de multiplier les échanges d’expériences, de connaissances et de points de vue entre doctorants, intervenants et auditeurs. Ces journées, particulièrement fertiles et instructives, déboucheront sur la publication en ligne des résumés de chaque intervention sur le site du Centre d’Histoire et de Civilisation de Byzance (Collège de France), de l’AEMB.

Les étudiants désireux de participer aux prochaines Rencontres internationales des doctorants en études byzantines qui prendront place au sein de l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art de Paris, seront invités à s’exprimer sur la problématique de leur choix pendant une vingtaine de minutes. Aucun sujet n’est imposé aux intervenants, en accord avec cette volonté d’ouverture des domaines de recherche ayant trait au monde byzantin.

En conclusion, ces Rencontres internationales des doctorants en études byzantines ont jusqu’à présent pu être organisées grâce au précieux concours de l’INHA, qui accueille généreusement ces riches dialogues depuis cinq ans.

MODALITÉS D’INSCRIPTION

Pour les doctorants souhaitant intervenir lors des Rencontres annuelles internationales des doctorants en études byzantines les 4 et 5 octobre 2013 :

AVANT LE 15 FÉVRIER 2013

Un résumé d’une vingtaine de lignes (maximum 2000 caractères, espaces compris) avec un titre en précisant :

▪ le type d’intervention (présentation du sujet de thèse ou sujet libre, à préciser)

▪ la langue souhaitée pour l’intervention (français ou anglais)

▪ le nom du directeur de recherche, l’institution de rattachement et le sujet de    recherche.

Un accusé de réception sera envoyé systématiquement dès réception du résumé.

Le programme définitif des Rencontres sera établi le 1er avril 2013, puis envoyé aux intervenants.

The British Museum is looking to recruit three Postdoctoral

Researchers to carry out research on different aspects of religious imagery and material culture, and their political and social contexts, in the time period c.200 to 800 CE, in one or more religious traditions and polities from the Mediterranean to South Asia.

This research will support the broad objectives of the Leverhulme Trust funded Empires of Faith research programme which is a unique research programme bringing together the British Museum with Wolfson College in the University of Oxford to understand the creation of religious iconographies and their relationships with state formation within this context.

The main purpose of this role will be to develop and deliver major pieces of research both individually and in collaboration with other programme staff, on the questions and subjects that support the overall objectives of the Empires of Faith research programme to final academic publication. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of web content, public programming and potentially displays. You will also be required to have the ability to understand the wider context of their research and the programme’s research, particularly in relation to the British Museum collections.

You will be educated to doctoral level or equivalent in a subject relevant to the role, for example Archaeology or Art History, with focus on religious traditions, cultures and polities from the Mediterranean to South Asia or alternatively in a related subject that can inform the study of religious and political imagery c.200 to 800 CE. You will have experience or demonstrable knowledge of material culture and/or academic perspectives that can inform the study of appropriate material and/or visual culture.

Excellent teamwork and communication skills are essential for this role, as well as previous experience working on a research project as a Research Assistant.

Interviews are likely to take place on 21 and 22 February 2013 in Oxford.
